Heart Touching Camel Milk Story from Fergana Valley of Uzbekistan

A series of camel stories from different regions of the world

Uzbekistan Central Asia

The milk story is derived from a case study of a camel farm in Fergana. Asrorzhon Khikmatov, a camel herder, has been engaged in herding camels for several years in the steppes of central Fergana in the Rishtan district of the Fergana region.

“I fell in love with camels because my father recovered from their milk”

Hikmatov

“Several years ago, my father fell ill, he was bedridden for a long time. On the advice of people, I started giving him camel milk and he recovered. Then I fell in love with camels. The father still drinks this milk. Abu Ali ibn Sina in his book “The Canons of Medicine” dwelled on the healing properties of camel milk, which contains three times more vitamins than cow’s milk. Avicenna’s words turned out to be true. I was convinced that camel’s milk cured many diseases by the example of my father, ”explains Asrorjon Hikmatov, president of the Roshidon nasldor tuyalari farm.

Camel Milk is Considered a Natural Pharmacy

“People come to us for healing milk from the regions, from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, sometimes from Russia. They bring in patients with diabetes mellitus and liver disease. Basically, camel milk cleanses the blood. We plan to conclude an agreement with Turkmenistan and increase the number of camels to 100 in the future. A liter of camel milk now costs 35,000 Soums. Basically, it is bought for medicinal purposes. We give free milk to seriously ill patients in need, ”explains the president of the farm.

The Milk Production Potential

“In fact, a camel can give up to 10 liters of milk a day. But our camels give 2 liters each. Because we don’t give them extra food. Camels feed on camel thorns in the pasture. If they are fed more, they will have more milk, but its healing properties will be lost. Unlike other animals, camels are very intelligent. But they need food, like five cows. Basically, they’re insatiable, ”smiles Asrorjon Hikmatov.

The Camels are Milked 3 Times a Day

We have learned that camels are milked 3 times a day: at sunrise, at noon, and in the evening. We really wanted to watch the morning milking process, so we left for Rishtan, as soon as dawn broke.

Hikmatov Also Makes Money from the Wool

Camels provide not only milk, he said, but also wool, which is much appreciated: “1 kg of camel’s wool costs $ 50. They make pillows, blankets, clothes out of them. In the future, we intend to start exporting wool. “

The Detailed Story

The detailed story was shared on the CAMEL-IDEE website. Here is the link to the complete story. https://www.camel-idee.com/le-lait-de-chamelle-en-ouzbekistan/

Hikmatov Loves the White Camel

I love the white camel too. So I and the Hikmatov have the same interest. Hikmatov said “I also have a white camel. These camels are very expensive. It’s very valuable to me, so I didn’t sell it even for 50 thousand dollars. I can gift a small white camel calf to him.

Why Camel Milk on World Milk Day Agenda?

The Answer is Very Simple

In the last 2 decades, some serious concerns reported regarding the consumption of milk at large, especially cow milk from factory farming. As we are living in the information era so there are many reports from different quarters of the world telling about the cow milk allergy protein, lactose intolerance, poor welfare of cows, methane emission, manure problems, and other health and environmental issue.

In such circumstances, many players are entering the ring, from vegetable milk (though the milk only comes from a living animals’ udder) to buffalo and mare to small ruminant milk. All types of milk coming from healthy animal and healthy nature are very good for our health, I have no doubt but camel milk is the best of all.

Why Camel Milk is the Best?

In my point of view, camel milk is one of the best choices as the camel has the potential of a true dairy animal, produces milk for a longer lactation period, and produces in a very sustainable and healthy mechanism. The milk of the camel is also very special and unique and had been considered as the natural pharmacy. Camel is naturally adapted to the calamities of climate change and produces precious milk without any energy and chemical inputs.

Camel Milk is Immune Boosting

Increased media coverage of climate change and consumers shifting to more natural, immune-boosting “super-foods” in COVID, puts camel milk higher up on the daily agenda.

The World Milk Day and the Real Heros~Farmers

June 1, World Milk Day and a Glass of Camel Milk

Please raise a glass of camel milk to good health! In COVID-19, from Kazakhstan to Kenya, demand for camel milk is up by 20%, especially home delivery. Great to help the fab camel dairies, pastoralists, veterinarians and experts from around the world to better position and communicate. The cow dairy lobby is very well organized – and now camel milk producers and users with lactose intolerance and other health issues are getting better organized also!

Thanks, Jeffrey Flood for your BBC News 2020 interview which first inspired me to learn more about this superfood, a world with hidden goodness in the most extreme climate. Your knowledge of nutrition, immunity, and health led to the wider camel world with Prof. Dr. Abdul Raziq Kakar and so many more. Merci e santé a tous!

Extra important in these tough times to support farmers and pastoralists around the world. Humans and our planet really do need good, healthy food to stay alive and well VS processed, chemical, sugar, or hormone-filled foods which mess with our land and immune systems and can trigger unwanted conditions.

Good health to all!

World Milk Day and the Camel Milk

The Camel and the Longs Shadows of Climate Change

The calamities of climate change are so devastating for the farming sector, especially animal agriculture. Not only the feed & water is the main challenge but the rise in temperatures, aridity, and diseases are also adversely affecting the production and the quality of the products. In such a mystifying scenario some species of animals are preferred over others because of their adaptation to the emerging challenges and producing quality products, the camel is one of the examples of such genetic resources.

Towering Demand for Camel Milk

The demand for camel milk is increasing because of some very basic facts as;

  • The camel can produce milk in the challenging environmets and needs very little inputs, so its products are attractive for those who think about the environment. Camel Dairying is sustainable in true sense.
  • The camel milk is very healthy, immune booster, and safe for all ages and conditions.
  • The camel milk has longer shelf life and needs very little efforts to be preserved and stored.

Seeing such a demanding market for camel milk, many players are coming into the ring to produce camel milk and deliver it in the market. In the last 2 years, many new camel dairying plans are chalked out in different regions but the main boost was seen in the Arabian Peninsula and the Horn of Africa (mainly Kenya). Also, new camel milk products are introduced in the market in Mongolia, China Kazakhstan, Iran, India, and some Western countries like Australia.

We can say that especially under the COVID-19: demand for camel milk grows from Kazakhstan to Kenya and from Australia to Europe and North America.

A camel milk entrepreneur from Kenya reported that up to 20% rise in demand for camel milk during COVID-19 and lockdown – especially home deliveries – as more consumers shift from cow to camel milk, to help boost immunity. Known for its anti-inflammatory, strong protective proteins, anti-microbial and nutritious value; parents seek camel milk for children.

But the camel milk really needs to be further investigated for its immunity-boosting role as there are many reports and some scientific studies suggesting that the camel milk can be a good and useful immunity booster.https://camel4all.info/index.php/2020/02/19/researching-camel-milk-as-an-antiviral-agent-in-the-context-of-covid-19/

Camel milk is no doubt free of allergic proteins and intolerant lactose. It is safe to be feed to people with cow milk protein allergy and lactose intolerance. Dr. Tahereh Muhammadabadi is working on the role of camel milk as a functional food and researching the thrilling of camel milk. She claims that the noble molecules present in camel milk perform as natural pharmacies for human beings. https://www.researchgate.net/publication/349695089_Camel_Milk_lactoferrin_Special_agent_against_bacterial_infections

The Production of Camel Milk is Also Increasing

Pre-COVID, the global camel milk products market was valued at USD 10.2 billion in 2019, with an estimated 3 million tons of camel milk officially sold and consumed around the world. But true production levels could be double that, at 5-6 million tons per year; as around 70% of camel milk is consumed by camel owners and never reaches the market.

Take-Home Message

I’m working with camels for the last 15 years and very much convinced that the camel is a true and sustainable dairy animal. The most important message over here is that the camel dairy must be promoted and developed as the camel dairy, not an HS model. The wellbeing and welfare of the camel must be kept in notice while establishing a camel dairy unit. Some camels are producing a very high volume of milk and the others are comparatively very low but we can manage a thick average from both extremes.

A Brief of Celebrations on World Camel Day 22 June 2020

Since the foundation of world camel day (WDC) by the author in 2008, each year this day is being celebrated in different corners of the world. https://arkbiodiv.com/2020/06/20/history-of-world-camel-day-22-june/amp/

The importance and interest in WCD are ever-increasing each year and many new stakeholders are coming into the ring to celebrate. It is a pleasure that the interest of the people is increasing in camels and camels related aspects. The main reason for attraction for the camel is the milk which is considered a unique and magical food and each year the number of camel milk consumers is increasing.

I’m going to share some important reports regarding the WCD celebration in 2020 to briefly highlight the importance of this day among the camel stakeholders. Such celebrations were made in different parts of the world and there were many online conferences which I attended and deliver key note speaches. This year, many meetings are in the WCD programs and I’m invited to talk over there about the importance of camel and the launch of the WCD.

22nd OF JUNE THE CELEBRATION DAY OF THE CAMEL

Anna Aiko,

Since 2014, she has been traveling along the Silk Road, the same one taken by ancestors of the past. All these explorers adventured in the discovery of this amazing world, traveling by camel, crossing these vast spaces, exchanging their knowledge, creating links, and writing our history.

She has crossed on camelback 1350 km: the Empty Quarter of Saudi Arabia with Rakayib and UAE with Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Center, and was runner-up at the HHC Camel Trek Marathon 2020.

She participated in the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival on the invitation of the Camel Club. She wrote this interesting report about the festival and especially emphasized the WCD.

She writes “The International Day for Camels is celebrated on 22nd of June every year. The following details elaborate on the way this day is celebrated by several major governmental departments in Saudi Arabia. Camels are one of the most miraculous creatures on earth. God asked us to think about their creation before thinking about the creation of the sky, the mountains, and the earth. These animals deserve all the interests, studies, and support because the information acquired will benefit future generations for their progress and research.” https://www.annaaiko.com/post/world-camel-day

Dr. Muhammad Younas, Head of the Camel Association of Pakistan

Dr. Younas Delivered a Presentation about the Camel Association of Pakistan and its role in the WCD and Camel Related Aspects. Here is the link to a very important and informative ppt regarding the camels and their related topics. https://cappak.files.wordpress.com/2020/08/dr.-m-younas_how-the-camel-are-made_wcd_vu.pdf

Margaret Weiss Photostory about the WCD

She has given special emphasis on the camel’s welfare and wellbeing. She is very sensitive with a kind soul. She wanted to highlight the issues related to the camels’ wellbeing and comfort. She writes “They are frequently subject to miserable lives in small enclosures and beaten into submission with sticks and forced to walk in blistering heat without water or food. Many tour operators insert pegs through camels’ noses to enable them to be trained and controlled more easily.”

She has posted very beautiful pictures from the field. Here is the link to her photostory regarding the camels and world camel day. https://margaretweiss.com.au/world-camel-day-2020/

Camel Connection; World Camel Day

According to the information available on the website of Camel Connections, they claim that;
  • Camel Connection unites camel owners, want-to-be owners, carers & lovers and helps them become Camel Confident & Camel Connected in all aspects of camels.
  • We teach people how to communicate with and care for camels through our online camel training course & our Cameleer Academy where Camel Connection is at the core of everything we teach.
  • We’ve had people from all walks of life learn about camels with us: from Medical Doctors & Business Executives to Zoo Keepers & Hobby Farmers (and everything in between
  • Whatever your camel goal/idea/dream is we can help you, just like we’ve helped others!
  • Everything we teach about camels comes from a place of connection, compassion & a deep understanding of camel psychology (and biology thanks to our dedicated Camel Connection, Camel Vet)!

The topic of the WCD; 3 Camel Myths – Busted!

They have told the world about the 3 myths related to the camels. IT’S WORLD CAMEL DAY – yes an actual day dedicated to camels, how cool is that? It’s a really cool thing for us here at Camel Connection HQ – a whole day dedicated to the CAMEL, although if truth be told…. It’s not much different from every other day (who’s complaining)!

22nd of June is World Camel Day. The day was designed to give recognition to the fact that camels are very important creatures to many people around the world. Most people rely on camels for their own survival (like us! they have stolen our hearts and taken over our lives – surely that counts)!

You can read the details about the topic in the link below. https://camelconnection.com/world-camel-day-3-camels-myths-busted/

World camel day: As tourists stay away from Odisha beaches, owners abandon camels

This sad story was reported under the banner of WCD that the camel/s are left abandoned in India. Indican camel keepers are under serious threat as the camel is losing its economic value because of many reasons.

“Desperate efforts are on in Rajasthan to arrest the sharp decline in the population of its state animal, the camel. Last month, a cabinet sub-committee made recommendations to end what Arushi Malik, special secretary, animal husbandry, called a “sort of inspector and permit raj” brought on by the Rajasthan Camel (Prohibition of Slaughter and Regulation of Temporary Migration or Export) Act, 2015, which had linked the trade, transport, and deaths of camels to their slaughter and criminal prosecution. In a knee-jerk reaction, the then BJP government had given “holy cow status” to the camel, blaming its slaughter for meat as the sole reason for the decline in population over the years.” https://www.indiatoday.in/magazine/special-report/story/20210510-declining-camel-population-in-rajasthan-1796990-2021-05-01

The Sad Story of Tragic Demise of Camel Queen

Who was Baigalma Baikal?

She was a well-known cameleer from Mongolia, nature & life-loving person with a kind soul. She was a camel queen and star on Facebook and Instagram. The people loved her lifestyle, exploring the camels’ world and walking with her camels. She started her journey from Mongolia to the UK with a title on BBC “One woman defies all odds by leading a herd of camels over an incredible 12,000km journey from Mongolia to London, UK.https://www.bbc.com/reel/video/p077ytl2/from-mongolia-to-the-uk-by-camel?fbclid=IwAR1my7E2DsxTw4WRXzKCEwRXZ_kf_ZOWeZ95HUeVMLBJhcbIRty5F-L5REk

She Lost Her Life in a Fire Incident in Mongolia

She was a well-known cameleer, camel queen, explorer, mountaineer, and adventurer, Mongolian dress designer, nature lover, and soulful camel friend. Baigalmaa Baikal Norjmaa, better known for her project Steppes To The West, traversing from Mongolia to the United Kingdom died in a tragic fire accident yesterday (15 May 2021).

Life is like sand, can’t be hold for longer period of time

Due to corona lockdowns, she wrote that she is feeling suffocated in the lockdown situation. She arranged a traditional Mongolian tent GER and shifted there to walk with the camels, feel free in the fresh air and explore the beauty of nature. She shifted there and the very first night the GER caught fire due to unknown reasons and got serious burn injuries and couldn’t survive.

She was a loving daughter, a wife, and mother of two young beautiful daughters. She was an active member of Camel4Life International. https://www.thenationalnews.com/uae/health/al-ain-doctor-sees-potential-in-camels-beyond-their-milk-1.51957

Our thoughts and prayers are with her mother, husband, daughters, extended family, and friends. We had chatted online on numerous occasions and materialized zoom conferences regarding the camels as a lifeline for nomads.

I was just scrolling through her messages on WhatsApp and thinking of her aims, visions, motives, and kindness. We don’t know when life comes to an end. Love your family, make that visit to friends happen and send a prayer for Baigalmaa Baikal Norjmaa.

Rest In Peace Baikal ???❤️❤️❤️.

The Camel is Richest with Names Among All theAnimals

Camel, the Richest with Names

Camel is the richest among all animals with different names. Joseph Freiherr von Hammer-Purgstall, a great eighteenth-century Orientalist, collected 5,774 words for camel and camel-related features and paraphernalia. There are at least thirty different words for camel milk. Yes, then why we use cow terminology for the camel?

Here is the Saddest Side

The camel terminology is mainly derived from a cow/cattle production system in English, which is a wrong approach. I’m giving you food for thought to reconsider and re-establish camel’s terminology. As the camel was domesticated, evolved, and managed for centuries in Arabian Peninsula, the best terminology will be the one used in that region.

Some Interesting Names of the Camel

Arabic has over 100 words for ‘camel’ which at one point had as many as 1,000 words. ‘Al-Jafool,’ for example is a camel that is frightened by anything and ‘al-harib’ is a female camel that walks ahead of the other camels.

A 200 Years Tradition, the Camel Wrestling in Turkey

My friend from Turkey, Dr. Atakan Koc Koç (animal scientist) wrote some details to me explaining somehow the details of camel wrestling in Turkey.

He writes as; We also have a similar tradition for more than 200 years in Turkey. But we call it “Camel Wrestling”, not fighting. The procedure of wrestling is elaborated in the following bullets.

  • First of all, wrestling takes place under the supervision of the referee and assistants.
  • Secondly, before wrestling, camels have their mouths tied so that they do not hurt each other, so they are not allowed to suffer.
  • Thirdly, wrestling only takes 10 minutes. If one does not dominate the other, it ends in a draw. Most wrestling ends in draws anyway. If it is understood that one camel is superior to the other, wrestling is terminated.
  • Fourth, 30-40 thousand people come to watch wrestling in some places. They watch wrestling in a picnic setting. The whole family comes and joins the wrestling.
  • Wrestling is usually held on Sunday. At least 50-60 wrestling/games are played. Camels are matched according to their wrestling style. They can do a lot of different wrestling games.
  • The evening before the wrestling day, a dinner party called “Carpet Night” is organized, and the wrestling camel owners participate in this entertainment. A social event for wrestling camel owners.
  • They come and join wrestling 350-400 km far from the wrestling place. It is strictly forbidden to give any doping substance or performance enhancer to make their camels win.
  • There are camel wrestling associations where wrestling camel owners are members.
  • The camel wrestling association has organized a wrestling federation. The federation is responsible for the organization of camel wrestling, the assignment of referees and their assistants, as well as servants.

Camel wrestling is also a symbol of love for camels

Animal rights advocates do object, and rightly so in their own right. In fact, wrestling camels are very well cared for and fed. However, most camels will have to be slaughtered if camel wrestling is banned. Like a member of the family. There are even those who bury them in a suitable place when they die and some of them built graves. As a result, not camels are not allowed to fight, they are allowed to wrestle in Turkey.

Camel wrestling attracts thousands of local people and tourists each year in Turkey and provides a great opportunity of recreation to the people and a way of camel conservation in the country as I always quoted ‘Utilization is the best conservation’.

Camel Milk Antibodies Inhibit the Growth and Proliferation of Cancerous Cells

The CaM antibodies are several times smaller than those produced by other animals including humans. Recently discovered ‘nanobodies,’ can enter tissues and cells that other antibodies cannot. They can even interfere with enzyme binding sites, contributing to camels’ remarkable disease resistance. Their size and ability make them potentially valuable in biomedical research (diagnosis) on a broad range of diseases including cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and atherosclerosis.

Lactoferrins, immunoglobulins and iron – binding glycoprotein

Studies have shown that camel milk works to combat and eradicate cancer cells (HepG2-MCF7) because camel milk contains high levels of lactoferrins, immunoglobulins, and iron-binding glycoprotein. These components act as antitumors and which happens through
increasing RNA synthesis and the inhibition of protein
kinases and differentiation.

Lactoperoxidase & Peptidoglycan in Camel Milk

The camel milk contains lactoperoxidase which possesses anti-tumor activity. Inclusion of peptidoglycan recognition protein in the milk was firstly found in camel milk which can fight breast cancer by taking over metastasis.

Camel Milk Nanobodies Pass Untouched to the Intestines

A tenth of the size of human antibodies thus acts as natural nanobodies, camel antibodies can grasp their targets just as human antibodies. The antibodies remain active when passing through the stomach. This is due to the fact that camel milk proteins do not precipitate in the stomach so they pass untouched into the intestines.

Camel Vocabulary

Camel is the backbone of the Arabic and other Pastoralists’ communities’ culture and literature. The Arabs have a very rich vocabulary of the camel, a single camel has many names depending upon the sex, age, color, breed, physical status, beauty, gait, foot, shoulder, head, ear, eyes, hair, neck, and so on. https://www.thenationalnews.com/arts-culture/the-art-of-naming-your-camel-1.651786

Arab loves their Camels and Using a wide Vocabulary

Joseph Freiherr von Hammer-Purgstall, a great eighteenth-century Orientalist, collected 5,774 words for camel and camel-related features and paraphernalia. Many of the terms he collected were poetical metaphors.17 But, for example, there really are at least thirty different words for camel milk.

The Love needs more Words to Express

As a personal note, I have an experience that the thing you love the most, you call that with many and different names. There are many names for the loved one, the kids and the animals, etc. It reveals that the camel keepers love their camel/s and they prioritize camels among the animals and even the family members.

There are 11 words for ‘love’ in Arabic, with each conveying a different stage in a relationship or the falling in love process. These words include ‘Hawa’ which is the initial attraction towards or turning towards and ‘Hayam which is blind love and the complete loss of reason. The most common words for love are ‘Hubb’ which means ‘seed’ and ‘Qalb’ which means ‘heart.’

Arabic has over 100 words for ‘camel’ which at one point had as many as 1,000 words. ‘Al-Jafool,’ for example is a camel that is frightened by anything and ‘al-harib’ is a female camel that walks ahead of the other camels. https://www.arabacademy.com/surprising-facts-arabic-language/

Camel Saved Human in Challenging Condition

An Arab friend of mine told me that the camel saved generations of people in the world’s driest ecosystems for centuries. The camel pastoralists were used to walk with their camels, drinking their milk with the dried dates.

What Ibne Khaldun Says?

Ibne Khaldun says “before Islam, the tribe of Mudar used to eat a portion of food made from the grounded wool (crushed with stone) of camels cooked in the blood named as IHLIZ اهلز”

In times of extreme drought or famine, it’s possible rules that religion may normally ban may be relaxed to ensure survival. In parts of east Africa in drought time people used to have to cut up, grind up and boil the camel and cattle skins they used as sleeping mats in order to survive.

Dr. Piers Simpkin, the honorable member of the camel4life advocacy group

Camel Skin and Hair are Sometimes Edible

A colleague of our camel advocacy group “Tumal from Oronto of Gabbara Pastoralists” told that; Around the year 1936, there was a serious drought in Northern Kenya, locally known as “Olla Qolaji” Olla- is drought Qolaji- dry poor cowhide. Hence Pastoralists Herders roasted cowhides from collapsed animals due to severe drought. My dad moved from Maikona in Marsabit County to Magado currently (350Kms) in Isiolo County- those days called Northern Frontier Districts by the Colonial government. Camels’ hides are roasted during food shortages in those days because it retains oil layers.

In some cultures, the camel pastoralists eat raw hump. Some communities even open the hump of the living camel, cut the hump, and sew the skin again. They eat the hump fats as raw food to subside their hunger. Drinking the camel’s blood from a living camel is still quite common in some camel pastoralists’ communities, especially in Africa.

Fake Camel Milk

Human is Greedy

Human greed is far to be satisfied with anything. Some people even do not hesitate to sell fake items and earn money, which is very painful and dangerous. As the camel milk (CaM) is making its space in the important functional foods globally at the same pace the fake CaM is coming in the market.

One of the most important and prominent example is ‘SUSU UNTA CAMEL MILK‘, claiming importing from Malasia where the camels are only in the zoo. Tons of the fake CaM powder are imported in Pakistan and delivered with the name of pure camel milk.

Look the level of fraud, using the word Halal.

Here is the link of the company selling fake CaM in Karachi, look at their claims. http://www.findglocal.com/PK/Karachi/531780563588892/Susunta-Camel-Milk

Look at their claims, the very sad state of the situation. I humbly request the authorities to please intervene in the situation and punish such fake greedy people to fool the people and play with their health.

For the details please go to the link provided in the URL https://camel4milk.wordpress.com/2021/03/17/fake-camel-milk-a-threat-to-our-health/amp/

Youtube Channel on camel milk

I have initiated a youtube channel about the properties of the camel milk, especially with the regard of the natural health. It is in English, Urdu and sometimes in Pashtu. https://youtu.be/oxpE-HIf-OA

Exposing the Fake CaM

I would write and talk about the fake CaM as there are some other outlets too. Please help me in getting the information and details about such fake CaM.

Please Do Not Kill Your Camel Milk (CaM)

Is camel milk alive? This is a very important question. As a whole, maybe you consider the milk as a dead entity or non-living item but the milk is the niche for billions of microorganisms. Such microorganisms are very crucial for the quality of the milk and the health of the consumer. Some microorganisms are dangerous like coliform bacteria and others but the majority of the microbes in the milk are very crucial and beneficial to keep the milk nutritious and healthy and sustain the shelf life of the milk and its products.

Everything is played at the time of pasteurization and with the quality of the milk. We heat the milk at a reasonable minimum precisely to preserve all the properties of the milk: 5 minutes at 65 degrees. at this low temperature, all the elements are preserved, and the health risk is greatly reduced. we tested at higher temperatures. no cheese formation: the milk was dead. between 5 and 10. normally 15, but our microbiological tests are good with this temperature

Francios Tighmert, camel milk cheese maker in Morocoo
CaM cheese made by Francios

Actually, regarding camel milk cheese, important is its properties.
If during the cheese-making process we saved its bioactive components or not? Then soft or hard forms contain high CLA, Ca, antihypertensive peptides, immune-modulatory peptides, lactic acid bacteria, antimicrobial peptides, and opioid peptides.

Dr. Tahereh Muhammadabadi

Looking Forward

I would love to ask you for your feedback about this debate. We should share the knowledge, especially about camel milk. In this article, you can understand the basics of camel milk pasteurization.

Soft Cheese made of CaM
Home level pasteurization of the camel milk to conserve the bioactive ingredients of the CaM

We assume you have very pure, hygienically healthy, fresh camel milk. Pour the milk into a clean pot (Metalic, preferably SS pot) and turn on the heater at low flame. Stir the milk slowly and check the milk temperature from time to time. Take a drop or two with the stirrer and put it on the backside of your hand/palm, if it started burning the skin, the milk is flash pasteurized. So this milk is safe on one hand for consumption and the bioactive molecules and healthy microorganisms are safe. You can make cheese from such live and healthy milk.

Keep your Camel Milk (CaM) Alive

Strong heating will kill your CaM. The dead milk has limited benefits because the major role as a natural healing agent is played by the bioactive molecules and the probiotic bacteria.

CaM Antibodies Can Help in Shark Conservation

Some 4 years before when I wrote this sentence ‘The camel milk (CaM) can help in shark conservation’, many critics jumped to me shouting with how how how.

Image for post

Here is the link to my general article at that time where I wrote ‘ Camel milk is a unique and incredible creature of God. Not only food but a gift of nature for natural health and beauty. This hidden treasure (camel milk) is now attracting the attention of millions of people around the world because of many reasons. The camel milk is finding its way in a world where the camel is not found naturally. Last June, on the eve of world camel day (22 June 2014) Japan’s TV channel NHK interviewed me on this important treasure. They showed interest in camel milk as; Japanese are very health sensitive. In Japan health-conscious people use Shark fins for natural and good health as (they think) Nanobodies (NB) found in Shark fins are health promising. This is the reason that Shark prices are very high in Japan. Recent studies revealed that such NB is found in camel milk far richer than the Shark fins. A famous chef name Chinn (protecting Shark) even claimed “Shark’s fin soup has no taste! You take fins off a shark and you don’t really get anything. There’s no value except what you’re paying for.” Camel milk can be a good source of NB and a reasonable replacement to the Shark fins. https://medium.com/@raziqarkbiodiversity/hidden-treasure-the-camel-milk-613cf3b695d0

Today, while reviewing some literature I came to scientific work titled ‘Mini-antibodies discovered in sharks and camels could lead to drugs for cancer and other diseases“, published in 2018. Even a scientist working on a llama (small camel) nanobody was key to structure work that won a recent Nobel Prize.https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2018/05/mini-antibodies-discovered-sharks-and-camels-could-lead-drugs-cancer-and-other-diseases

The heavy chain small size antibodies found in camel blood and milk both. These antibodies are several times smaller than those produced by other animals including humans. Dubbed ‘nanobodies,’ they can enter tissues and cells that other antibodies cannot.

The CaM antibodies will open the door for a future’s advanced biomolecular pharmacy to treat all sorts of complicated diseases ranging from resistant bugs to the caners and viral infections to diabetes.

My Philosophy

My philosophy Nature is the Solution’ is coming true and the camel is the flag bearer of this philosophy.

The philosophy always emerges first and then a hypothesis is established and later on research is conducted. My philosophy and assumptions are coming true through the researches conducted with valid scientific methods.

A Review of the Book Camel Crazy

The camel is strange, useful, precious, tolerant, strong and resilient
We the human learn and absorb the above-said characteristics from the incredible camel. I think the camel is itself a chronological story, the long and diverse evolution period, from North America to the center of the earth, the Arabian peninsula.

I have my own philosophy of understanding and explaining the camel’s powers/salient features.

1. strong eyesight, 2. strong power of smell, 3. unique neck (a tool of body positioning during standing and sitting with the load), 4. strong hearing, 5. resistance to hunger and thirst, 6. tolerance (burning heat of desert and dependence on salty plants and water), 7 committed and consistent, and 8. intelligent (good in learning with stronger memory).
While reading the book ‘camel crazy’, I realized that the author Christina Adams somehow followed the 7 powers of the camel in her journey.

  • I shall briefly explain, how she followed the theme of 8 powers in her book in the following lines briefly.
  • She tolerated the loneliness after the family break
  • She resisted the stress emerged managing and nourishing an autistic kid
  • She sighted and smelled the power of the camel milk from such a distance, from North America in the ME.
  • She was balancing her position between an autistic kid and the world of the camel, understanding, and exploring.
  • She recognized and heard the voice of the people who are connected with the camels. She showed the power to hear those very diverse and vast voices.
  • She tolerated the tiring journeys and resisted the negative waves of some schools of thought and kept her direction straight and clear.
  • She proved herself owing a very intelligent mind and memory, keeping and analyzing the information she gathered from very different parts of the world.

The author explored the potential of camel milk (CaM) in healing and managing autism, a great and unique idea. With patience, she used it for years and helped her son to be healed.
She was convinced by the power of the camel, she traveled, met the camels and camel people. She visited camel cultures and absorbed their beauty and calmness.
CC is a living story, the story of a traveler of a special cause. While seating at home, you will not only learn about the camels’ wonders but you will visit the camel’s habitats through the pages of the book.

CC does not only cover the above 8 philosophical powers but also provides proves of the travel journey with very beautiful photographs and the quality of the camel milk with the tables of composition.

Meet the Healthy Wajir Camel

Hey World

I’m Wajir, a Gabbra camel from Northern Kenya. I born in a beautiful commune in April 1997. My father is from the Gabbra tribe and my mother is from the Somali tribe. I have genes from the two important tribes. I have great makeup of genes, making me strong and keeping me alive for a longer period with full productivity and active life.

Watjir, the camel treasure of the Gabbra

I’m Strong

I’m proud of my genes, making me stronger and resilient. I have survived 2 very long and severe droughts. I just lowered my reproductive work and put my energy into surviving and enjoying life in aridity. This severe and longer drought sustained for 3 years, 2015-2018, and my many mates died. I still miss them all. I wish the world plant more vegetation, give us a better environment and make mother earth healthy and productive. I hope the rains will return to us as the rains love the vegetation.

Beautiful Wajir, lovely and proud

I’m Concerned About my Australian Mates

I have heard that some authorities in Australia are killing my camel fellows. Why they do so? The camels do not need anything from them. They live their own free and happy life. I’m very sad about them. I’m so confident and convinced that our troubles are because of our human masters, our troubles come from them, directly or indirectly.

I’m Still Productive and Lively

I have already returned to normal life. I have gifted a lot of my genes in the kind of beautiful camels to the Gabbra tribe. I’m very thankful to Gabbra, especially my master Tumal, for keeping me happy and taking care of me as a family member. I’m still surviving and gave birth to a beautiful male calf in December 2020.

Wajir

I really acknowledge Mr. Tumal, a loving animal keeper and master of Wajir.

Camel Milk Lactoferrin! A Useful Tool Against the Infections

What is Lactoferrin?

Lactoferrin is one glycoprotein detected in livestock milk; as camel milk containing the highest amount in comparison to other livestock species. Lactoferrin boosts the immune system by protecting the cells against bacterial and viral infections and inflammations.

What does the Lactoferrin do?

The lactoferrin of mammalian species have been proved to inhibit the growth of some pathogenic strains in human and/or animal such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Shigella dysenteriae, Listeria monocytogenes, Streptococcus spp., Vibrio cholerae, Legionella pneumophila, Klebsiella pneumophila, Enterococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Bacillus stearothermophilus and Bacillus subtilis

Lactoferrin helps in Keeping Healthy Gut Microbiome

Oral administration of lactoferrin reduces bacterial infections of the gastrointestinal tract and promoting the proliferation and growth of bacteria with low iron requirements such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria as beneficial strains for the host.https://camel4all.info/index.php/2020/02/19/researching-camel-milk-as-an-antiviral-agent-in-the-context-of-covid-19/

Explore the Novel Antimicrobial Molecule ‘LACTOFERRIN’

Lactoferrin can reduce bacterial growth, inhibit bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation; thus, it might be considered an antimicrobial therapeutic agent.  Regarding the increasing resistance to antibiotics, it is necessary to explore novel antimicrobial drugs for bacterial diseases. https://camel4all.info/index.php/2014/12/12/super-food-camel-milk-can-beat-the-challenge-of-super-bug-bacterial-resistance-to-antibiotics/

The Secret Power is in the Camels’ Genes

The drive behind the camel domestication was a set of goals to achieve through this incredible animal, the camel; an animal that can produce food in a challenging scenario. These challenges were comprised of bad weathering, scarcity of food & water, and long traveling for different purposes.

The wise cameleers selected the incredible camel to achieve this set of tasks to ensure food security and livelihood in the world’s driest landscapes. The secrets of the potential both as qualitative and quantitive traits are treasured in their genes. The camel can play a very multi-dimensional role for the betterment of the human being and Mother Earth. Camel4life international is an advocacy forum promoting camel at the global level to convince the policymakers and other stakeholders to use the camels as an agent for development and food security. https://www.thenationalnews.com/uae/science/effect-of-camel-milk-against-cancer-tested-in-regional-study-1.874484

Camel and Nature Connection Camel and water Camel Farm & Milk Production Ecosystem Management General about camel Gut health The Camel Science

Camel Ensures Food Security under the Climate Change

Camel ensures food security in climate change scenario, why? Because;

  • Camel is the most efficient animal in water economy, as camel consumes 8-10 times less water than the dairy cow in the same environment to produce 1 kg of milk
  • Camel has unique gut flora (microbiome), very diverse and as efficient as the termite’s microflora, can digest the hardiest and toughest dry matter, the camel can convert wood into energy
  • Camel is protein efficient as camel recycles blood urea and fulfill some of the protein requirement its recycling mechanism
  • Camel has very minute or zero-emission because of its efficient digestive system which digests feedstuffs in a way that produce very little methane
  • The high temperature cannot depress the milk yield of the camel, ironically the camel lactation curve incline in the harsh summer days
  • Camel does not need any cooling inputs, they can tolerate the skin burning heat waves of the desert, otherwise, in the same environment the dairy cattle need artificial cooling systems which consume energy and water
Camel is the most visible player of the desert

What do the Camels need from us?

The camels and the camels’ keepers need our support at the policy level. The camel must be considered as an important player while making policies about the deserts, climate change, food security, pastoralism, energy, emissions, dairy, meat, rural development, poverty reduction, and other related aspects. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/20141117111944-85443832-camel-a-solution-to-the-difficult-questions-of-future

General about camel The Camel Milk (CaM)

How do you see the Future of Camel Milk and its Business?

The demand for camel milk increased manifold over the last 15 years, two main drivers are behind this rise; 1. Processing of CaM and awareness about the CaM.
Camel milk is a proven immune booster and anti-infectious along with other important healing properties. Presently the first role is very important because of the COVID19 issue. We expect a sharp rise in the demand for the CaM, but practically, the sale of the CaM shrank and couldn’t sustain its pace compared to last years (2018-2019).
This is a real question, why the demand or the flow declined? I table this question before you and wait for your technical answer. In my point of view, this decline is because of the logistic complications following the negative propaganda linking COVID19 and the MERS altogether.
Waiting and looking forward
